Academic Policies and Appeals Committee Annual Report, 2001-2002

The Academic Policies and Appeals Committee met twice during the 2001-2002 academic year: October 3, 2001, and April 9, 2002. Jane Nardin was unanimously elected as Chair.

The Committee submitted a Policy on Appeals for Waiver of Degree Requirements to the L&S Faculty on November 1, 2001, and the policy was approved (Faculty Document 606) with two revisions.

The Committee declined an opportunity to consider changes in the College's CLEP policies, referring the matter to individual departments.

The following student appeals were considered:
  1. Request denied to count toward the Arts requirement a course that is not on the approved list.
  2. Request unanimously approved to count dramatic literature courses in Theatre as advanced L&S credits.
  3. Appeal denied to drop a Chemistry course after the deadline due to the absence of relevant medical confirmation.
  4. Appeal denied for waiver of the Mathematics requirement on the basis of the new policy.

No further actions were undertaken by the committee during the academic year.

Respectfully submitted
