- Role of the Committee - Connie Jo gave a brief summary concerning the past history of the Affirmative Action Advisory Committee. She explained to members of the Committee that, in recent years, the Committee has discussed whether it needs to exist. It was moved and seconded to recommend to the Faculty that the AAA Committee be discontinued. Reinhold Hutz noted that a campus-wide committee duplicates the general functions of the L&S AAA. Marija Gajdardziska-Josefovska asked how L&S would deal with a specific affirmative action problem if one occurred. Connie responded that Eleanor Miller deals with individual cases. The Committee was established to review the College's overall progress in affirmative action matters. If a more general problem arises, it could be referred to the Faculty, and an ad hoc committee could be appointed to investigate. Members amended the motion to indicate the AAA would be discontinued with the understanding that it would be replaced by an ad hoc committee whenever necessary. The motion was approved. Connie will circulate a draft of the motion and rationale to Committee members for fine-tuning.
- New Business - None
- Adjournment - Given the Committee's recommendation to discontinue itself, the members did not return to Procedural Matters to elect a chair for 2003-2004. The meeting was adjourned at 1:50 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Connie Jo
