- The Chair, Robert Jeske, called the meeting to order at 3:42 p.m. in Holton Hall 241.
- Automatic Consent
- Approval of Minutes #5, 2001-2002 (March 5, 2002) - Item V.B. of the minutes was amended to read that students in the Certificate in Rhetorical Communication would be encouraged to participate in "a program of practical application" rather than in "an internship." The minutes were approved as amended.
- Because a quorum was not present, it was agreed to hold the meeting anyway and to ask the full committee to ratify the actions taken at this meeting as items of Automatic Consent.
- Procedural Matters
- Election of Chair for 2002-2003- tabled.
- Old Business
- Loss of One L&S Position on the Graduate Faculty Council - Committee members reviewed Dale Jaffe's response to a GPC request for information on how membership is determined. There were no additional questions about this matter.
It was moved, seconded, and approved to suspend the agenda to accommodate the guest.
V.D. Gerald Alred gave a brief summary and responded to questions about the two English proposals. It was moved and seconded to recommend to the Dean approval of the proposal from the Department of English to add a Plan G Professional Writing Option to the MA in English. The motion was approved unanimously.
V.E. It was moved and seconded to recommend to the Dean approval of the proposal from the Department of English to add a Professional Writing Concentration to the PhD in English. The motion was approved unanimously.
It was moved, seconded, and approved to return to the order of the agenda.
- New Business
- Recommendation of the Master's in Human Resources and Labor Relations Program to Modify the Program's Advising Process - view online at http://www.des.uwm.edu/intranet/opc/viewform.cfm?FormID=319 - It was moved and seconded to recommend to the Dean approval of the proposal from the Master's in Human Resources and Labor Relations Program to modify the Program's advising process. The motion was approved unanimously. Committee members recommended that the additional explanation of the change provided by the Director via email be incorporated into the document.
- Recommendation of the Department of History to Modify the Requirements the History MA Degree - view online at http://www.des.uwm.edu/intranet/opc/viewform.cfm?FormID=342 - It was moved and seconded to recommend to the Dean approval of the Department of History's proposal to modify the requirements for the History MA Degree. The motion was approved unanimously.
- Recommendation of the Master's in Public Administration Program to modify the Requirements for the MPA and the joint MPA/MUP degree - view online at http://www.des.uwm.edu/intranet/opc/viewform.cfm?FormID=329 - This item of business was withdrawn and will be resubmitted at a later date.
- Recommendation of the Department of English to Add a Plan G Professional Writing Option to the MA in English - view online at http://www.des.uwm.edu/intranet/opc/viewform.cfm?FormID=350 - see above
