Resolution of the L&S Faculty Concerning the Appointment of a Dean
for the College of Letters and Science

Whereas, the L&S Faculty has an interest in budget matters affecting the College and a responsibility to provide thoughtful input concerning such matters; and

Whereas, the members of the L&S Faculty are not convinced that the four finalists for position of Dean of the College of Letters and Science rise to the stature that warrants their appointment at this time, for want of experience and/or scholarship; and

Whereas, the University and the College are entering a period of budgetary strain that will require an administration that can make timely and knowledgeable budgetary decisions; and

Whereas, Dean Richard Meadows has assembled an effective working team whose efforts have been productive;

Be it resolved that the L&S Faculty recommend to the Provost the following:

that the current search for a Dean of the College of Letters and Science be abandoned, and
that Dean Meadows be appointed as Dean of the College of Letters and Science.
