2000-2001
Committee on Committees Annual Report

The Letters and Science Committee on Committees met three times during the 2000-2001 academic year: September 22, 2000; December 8, 2000; and February 28, 2001.

September 22

Campbell Tatham was elected Chair, and the Committee recommended that David Mulroy serve as parliamentarian. Members agreed to meet according to the same schedule as had been followed in the past--setting meetings whenever needed by appropriate business. The 1999-2000 Annual Report was approved.

The Affirmative Action Advisory Committee review was continued from the previous year. The AAAC had not met in a number of years, and the members decided to try to reactivate the committee. The term of committee members was changed to three-year (staggered) terms.

The Committee approved a policy asking that each department assign a representative to attend the faculty meeting and to report back to the department. Chair Tatham sent out a notice to departments reminding them of the policy. November 2, 2000, February 8, 2000, and April 12, 2001, were approved for L&S Faculty meetings for the academic year.

December 8

The College Approval Matrix was approved as revised and submitted to the Dean.
Distinguished Professor nominations procedures were discussed and suggestions for changes were invited.

February 28

The Dean approved the faculty's recommendation to reduce the quorum for faculty meetings to 25. The Dean approved the College Approval Matrix. Committee members were unable to identify the requisite number of nominees for each open position for the coming year. Connie Jo was authorized to seek additional nominations, especially in Natural Sciences, draft a report to the faculty and circulate it to committee members for their review.

Campbell Tatham was approved unanimously to continue as Chair for 2001-2002.

Respectfully submitted,

Mary K. Casey, Communication
