  1. The Chair, Jay Beder, called the meeting to order at 2:10 p.m. in Holton Hall 241.


  2. It was moved, seconded, and approved to suspend the agenda to accommodate the guests.

    VI. A.1 It was moved and seconded to approve the following CARs:
      Spanish 912-315 Spanish Immersion Weekend (new)
      Spanish 912-349 Introduction to Interpretation (new)
      Professor Joseph Rodriguez explained the role of these two courses in the department's curriculum and answered questions. The motion was approved.

    VI. A.3 It was moved and seconded to approve the proposal to modify the requirements of the Digital Arts and Culture program. Professor Mia Consalvo explained the changes and answered questions. The motion was approved.

    It was moved, seconded, and approved to return to order of the agenda.

  8. Other Business
    1. The Committee agreed to add an automatic consent item to the agenda - request for blanket approval of prerequisite changes to English courses affected by the elimination of the GER requirement that students complete English competency before they can attain junior standing. The only changes to the courses are the addition of "satisfaction of the GER English Composition competency req" and, for some, a clarification that "upper-division" refers to courses at the 300-level or above. There were no objections to these changes for the courses listed below; they are recommended to the dean for approval. The Committee noted that English 350-400 is jointly-offered with Linguistics. Approval is contingent upon submission of an equivalent change for Linguis 550-400.

      Add "satisfaction of GER English Composition competency req" to the prerequisites.
