VI.B.1, 2.   It was moved and seconded to recommend to the Dean approval of the following CARs:
Global 425-201   Introduction to Global Studies II: International Trade/Environmental Change (new)
Global 425-202 Introduction to Global Studies III: Globalization & Information Technology (new)
Global 425-290 Think Tank Learning Community III (new)
Global 425-390 Think Tank Learning Community IV (new)
Global 425-490 Think Tank Learning Community V (new)
It was moved and seconded to recommend to the Dean approval of the following GER forms:
Global 425-201   Introduction to Global Studies II: International Trade/Environmental Change (GER-SS)
Global 425-202 Introduction to Global Studies III: Globalization and Information Technology (GER-SS)
Patrice Petro summarized the Global Studies Program. Ann Banda, Julia Kruse and Patrice answered questions about the Think Tank courses. They agreed to change the wording on the CAR form clarifying the prerequisites and setting a limit on the number of credits that may be earned in Think Tank Courses. The motion was approved contingent upon the submission of revised CAR forms to the Committee's chair for his approval.

V.A.   Tom O'Bryan and Erl Olfe explained the benefits of having articulation agreements with the Technical Colleges. Tom O'Bryan distributed documents outlining current transfer policies from tech schools to UWM, illustrating the requirements of one program for which an agreement is being developed, and summarizing the credit transfer from that program into the Communication major. (Copies of those documents are filed with the original of these minutes.) Erl and Tom answered questions concerning various aspects of articulation agreements. They are meeting with departments and other faculty groups in order to engage in a broad discussion of this issue prior to requesting any action. Mike Allen specified that it would be the responsibility of the department, not the College Administration, to decide whether or not to participate. He noted that two actions are required:
    1. a general motion on whether the College should participate in articulation agreements, and
    2. action on each agreement that is proposed.
Mike agreed to prepare a general motion for the next meeting.

A.2. David Pritchard gave a summary and answered questions concerning the JMC Department's proposal to modify requirements for declaring the major. It was moved and seconded to recommend to the Dean approval of the proposal. Concern was expressed over limiting students to only 3 months in which to declare their majors. After some discussion, it was agreed to permit declaration of the major in all months except September and January. With this modification, the motion was approved unanimously.

It was moved, seconded, and approved to return to the order of the agenda.

  4. Automatic Consent - CAR forms for JMC 570 and 571 were pulled from the agenda. There were no objections to any of the remaining automatic consent items; they stand approved.
