Policy Issue

The Committee reviewed a draft of a College approval matrix prepared by the Committee on Committees and recommended some amendments to the draft.

Procedural Issues

Sylvia Schaefer resigned from the Committee, and Robert Jeske was appointed to replace her, serving a three-year period.

Committee members agreed to meet on alternate Tuesdays and Fridays because no members could attend every meeting.

The draft Report on Doctoral Program Array at UWM was discussed briefly. When the final version is available, the Committee will discuss it further.

The Committee members reviewed the Master's Program Survey summary table of information and will discuss ways to use this information.

The Committee voted unanimously to request that the Dean either distribute copies of the Doctoral Array report and the Research 2006 report to departments or provide a web address where these reports are available.

Mark Schwartz announced that he had to resign from the Committee for the remainder of his term due to other pressing obligations. The next eligible candidate to fill the vacancy will be notified.

David Heathcote was elected unanimously as Committee Chair for the 2000-2001 academic year.

Other Business

The Committee met with Dean Rayburn and Associate Deans Jaffe and Jones of the Graduate School. Dean Rayburn gave a summary statement of Graduate School links with the "First Ideas" of the Milwaukee Idea and future directions for the Graduate School. He indicated that it appears the time has come for the institution to give a strong emphasis to graduate enrollments and programs.
