301 Special Listing Requests were approved.
Procedural Matters
- Jane Nardin was elected co-chair unanimously.
- Sub-committee chairs were elected: Mike Allen for HU; Jeff Merrick for SS; Jim Coggins for NS; Chuck Schuster for W-I.
- Appointments to the W-I Subcommittee were: Jay Beder, NS; Jane Nardin, HU; Bettina Arnold, SS.
- Committee members agreed to meet every three weeks on Tuesdays at 9:00 a.m. for the Fall semester. Beginning with 2000, meetings will be held on Wednesday mornings--Jan. 26, Feb. 16, Mar. 8, Mar. 29, Apr. 19, and May 10.
- Committee members agreed that no formal action was necessary to require development of a policy for approval of "senior standing" for capstone courses. Departments will address proposals on an individual basis when they are submitted.
- Jeffrey Merrick was elected unanimously as Committee chair for the 2000-2001 academic year.
- The Committee approved the authorization of the chair to act on behalf of the Committee on non-controversial business during the summer.
- The Committee agreed that in the future the Committee should act upon requests for GER credit with stricter attention to the original guidelines. The Chair and Chair-elect will draft a memo in Summer 2000 to be reviewed by the Committee in the fall and sent to the departments informing them of the Committee's intent to adhere more strictly to the guidelines.
- The Committee unanimously approved thanking and commending the chair, Professor William Kean, for his fine work in leading the Committee for two years.
Procedural Policies
- The Committee agreed to endorse two policy statements proposed by the Computer Policy Committee: ownership of courses once they are approved by the APCC and authority for the choice of instructor, method of pedagogy, etc. once the course is approved.
- The Committee agreed that the following changes should be reviewed by the C&CC but do not have to go to the L&S faculty: GER/CD, crosslisting, related courses, L&S degree categories (W-I, International, Seminar, advanced natural science), and assignment of courses to major categories. Members also agreed that the second, third, and last of these items could be handled as Automatic Consent Business. Finally, members agreed that no review of active/inactive status changes is necessary.
- The Committee agreed that all CAR forms except those for new courses can be considered as automatic consent business.
- The Committee agreed that Honors Program requests for a subtitle of an Honors course that count toward the International requirement should be considered as automatic consent business.
- The Committee approved the endorsement of UROP to recommend approval of the CAR forms listed below and to grant automatic approval to additional UROP Seminar and Apprenticeship courses when they are developed and submitted to the Committee.
