    V. A. Erl Olfe presented a report on the Quality of Work Requirement in the Major. He indicated that using alternative methods of calculating grade point averages in the major for the 1999-2000 grades resulted in a negligible change in ability of students to graduate. He said students and advisors found the suggested new GPA standards confusing. After a general discussion, the Committee members agreed that no further action was needed.

The Committee returned to the original agenda.

  4. Procedural Matters
    1. Meetings times for Spring semester were discussed. Members agreed the original schedule of meeting dates and times would be fine.
    2. Mike Darnell, Assistant Chair of the Department of English, sent a letter to the Committee members explaining the department's CAR approval process. The Committee members felt the matter was clarified at this time.
    3. Connie Jo reviewed the On-Line Program Changes /CAR Forms On-Line. She recommended that the members review On-Line Program Changes (OPC). She also recommended that CAR forms for automatic approval and automatic consent be viewed on-line. If a member wished to discuss one of these CAR forms, it could be photo-copied and distributed at the meeting. All new CAR forms will continue to be photo-copied and distributed with the agenda. The Committee members will try this new method and then discuss if a permanent procedural change is warranted.
