It was moved and seconded to recommend approval of this course to the Dean. The motion passed unanimously.
VI. C. 2. Thomas Holme also discussed the Biochemistry Major Implementation Plan. It was discussed how this major would complement rather than compete with the Biotechnology major. The fact that Bio Sci faculty who teach relevant biochemistry courses were not informed they were listed as participating faculty in this new major was discussed. James Coggins advised he would bring this issue to the next Bio Sci Department meeting. It was agreed that the plan should be revised to make it clear that the Bio Sci faculty members listed are those who are teaching the upper-level elective Bio Sci courses for the major. Connie Jo will make this revision to the proposal before forwarding it to the L&S Faculty. It was moved, seconded and approved unanimously to recommend approval of the Biochemistry Major Implementation Plan with the change indicated.

The Committee returned to the original agenda.

    4. Other
      1. The Committee was asked by the chair, who is also a member of the APCC, to identify the issues about which it has concerns relative to GER/Cultural Diversity assignments. The members identified the following: a) The separation of GER/Cultural Diversity credit - the Committee requests that APCC formally consider this proposal. b) The diffuse criteria for assigning GER - members have concerns that the criteria have become fuzzy and may not reflect the original definitions of HU/SS/NS; however, no formal request for APCC consideration has been made. c) The UWM definition of cultural diversity differs from the rest of the system; discussed, but no formal request for APCC to consider this issue has been made.
      2. Connie Jo shared a recent discussion at the APCC about students taking non-classroom credits (e.g. internship, UROP apprenticeship credits). Some members of the APCC were concerned that limits on total number of non-classroom credits that a student can count toward the degree should be set. This Committee felt that limits are already in effect in many departments. Members agreed that the Committee does not need to consider this matter until someone demonstrates that it is a problem.
      3. APCC Recommendations on the Committee Interdisciplinary Major - deferred.

  7. The meeting was adjourned at 10:29 a. m.
