  1. Call to Order - The Chair, Professor Jeffrey Merrick, called the meeting to order at 9:33 a.m. in HLT 241.

  2. Automatic Approvals – There were no questions concerning the following items.

  5. Old Business
    1. Italian 508-242 Topics in Italian American Studies: (Subtitle) (new/GER-HU) - Tabled
      It was moved, seconded, and approved unanimously to remove this item from the table. It was moved and seconded to approve the course. Professor Robin Pickering-Iazzi explained that the course will be taught from a comparatist perspective. Course content will include a discussion of linkages between Italian and Italian-American culture. She indicated that this is what distinguishes this course from a course in Italian-American literature that the English Department might teach. The course and the GER-HU credits were approved unanimously.

      The agenda was suspended to consider other issues of interest to the committee's guest.

      CAR Forms - The following CAR forms were approved unanimously.
      Italian 508-243 Topics in Italian American Film: (Subtitle) (new)
      Italian   508-357 Studies in Italian Literature in Translation: (Subtitle) (title, prereq)
      GER Request
      Italian   508-243 Topics in Italian American Film: (Subtitle) (new, GER-A)
      The selection of the Arts category for the following course was questioned, based on the fact that Arts courses tend to be performance courses. The instructor indicated that the designation was an error; the request should be for HU credits. It was moved, seconded, and approved unanimously to recommend the course for GER-HU credits.

      The committee returned to the regular order of the agenda.

    2. Quality of Work Requirement in the Major - Delayed until December
    3. Community Program in Jewish Studies - nothing to report

  6. New Business
    1. Natural Sciences
      1. CAR Forms - The following CAR forms were approved unanimously.
        Env St 358-490 Undergraduate Seminar: Conservation and Environmental Science (title, prereq)
        Geosci   422-100 Introduction to the Earth (prereq)
      2. Proposal to amend the electives list for the major in Conservation and Environmental Science - It was moved, seconded, and unanimously approved to recommend these changes to the Dean.
    2. Social Sciences - None
    3. Humanities
      1. CAR Forms - The following CAR form was approved unanimously.
        French   400-425 Introduction to Translation (prereq)
      2. Proposal to revise Option A of the English major - It was moved, seconded, and approved, with one abstention, to recommend approval of this proposal to the Dean.
    4. Jeff Merrick informed the members of the Committee that the APCC has just approved a program review report for the Committee Interdisciplinary Major. APCC raised several issues concerning the major that the C&CC will need to address. Copies of the report will be forwarded to members of the Committee with the next agenda.

  7. Adjournment - The meeting was adjourned at 9:54 a.m. and forty-five seconds.
