April 10, 2000 RECOMMENDATION OF THE ORGANIZATIONAL ADMINISTRATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE AND THE COURSE AND CURRICULUM COMMITTEE TO OFFER ORGANIZATIONAL ADMINISTRATION AT UWM CAMPUS Recommendation: That the organizational administration option be offered on the UWM campus as a special track of the Committee Interdisciplinary Major (CIM) effective Fall, 2000. Rationale: The L&S faculty has approved the BAOA to be offered on campuses of the UW Colleges as a formalized program. An on-campus student now can do a BAOA--CIM major via the regular CIM process; however, the committee wishes to make this option available to UWM students within the same formal structure, as a preliminary step to seeking permanent approval. The proposal for a women's studies major, currently under development, offers precedence for this process. In addition to the action taken by the BAOA Advisory Committee, the three departments (Communication, Economics, Sociology) involved in offering the courses for the program were asked for their reactions to this recommendation. The faculties of these departments were asked to consider the departments' ability to handle additional students in their sections, to offer OA courses on a regular basis, and to handle the capstone workload. The faculties of all three departments voted to participate in offering the BAOA on campus. Approved: L&S Course and Curriculum Committee, March 29, 2000 |
