    1. It was moved and seconded to approve the draft revisions of the Concentrated Study in Two Departments (or Curricular Areas) policy. Several editorial changes were suggested. It was moved and seconded to amend the main motion to accept the editorial changes. The amendment was approved unanimously. The main motion, as amended, was approved unanimously. The proposed policy reads as follows:

Concentrated Study in Two Departments (or Curricular Areas). Students who do not find any of the above options satisfactory may elect concentrated study in two departments or curricular areas. Concentrated study requires the completion of 15 credits in upper-division courses (numbered 300 or above) in each of two departments in the College of Letters and Science. Courses from any department may be selected. Students must obtain the approval of the chair of each department in order to elect this option. Departments may impose requirements for the selection of courses. Requirements may include that students complete certain prerequisite courses that a department feels are needed for students to receive maximum benefit from taking advanced courses in the discipline. Any such requirements are approved by the College's curriculum committee and are published in the department's section of the Bulletin.

Connie Jo was asked to draft a rationale statement for review by the committee members at the next meeting.

    2. Connie reported that the issue of "Community Certificate Programs" will be discussed at an October 19 meeting with Assistant Vice Chancellor Sona Andrews and university associate deans.
    3. Connie reported on responses from departments concerning the development of a "senior standing" policy for capstone courses. Committee members decided that no formal action was necessary; proposals will be addressed on an individual basis when they are submitted. Connie was asked to distribute copies of the draft policy to committee members.
