D. It was moved and seconded to recommend to the Dean approval of the proposal by Professor Lex Renda to change the quality of work requirement in the major. Professor Renda expressed concern about the fact that students repeat courses, rather than taking new course work, to raise their major GPAs. Erl Olfe suggested that the proposal be tabled to allow his office time to review records of graduates for the past three semesters to determine the extent of the problem that concerns Professor Renda. Mr. Olfe indicated that his staff would try to develop alternatives that might define the issue more clearly. Connie Jo reported that she had spoken with Professor Renda that morning. He indicated that the purpose of his proposal was simply to put the issue before the committee for discussion. He was not concerned that there be a vote taken immediately, and he was happy to consider alternative suggestions that would address the problem.
