  1. Call to Order--The chair, Bill Kean, called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. in Holton 241.

  2. Automatic Consent
    1. Minutes #10 (March 29, 2000) were approved as submitted.
    2. There were no objections to any of the Special Listing Requests (see Agenda #11 for complete list). They stand approved.
    3. There were no objections to the following Course Action Request; they stand approved.

    1. Community Program in Jewish Studies--nothing to report
    2. Quality of Work Requirement in the Major--nothing to report.
    3. Commun 245-661 (CD request for specific subtitle)--department withdrew
    4. Draft Memo to APCC Regarding GERs--Members discussed the draft prepared by Jane Nardin. There was a general consensus in the views expressed, but concern was expressed that efforts on the part of L&S to restrict the assignment of GER status to courses, as the degree requirements originally intended, might encourage other schools and colleges to develop additional courses of their own, thus defeating the purpose of this effort. No action will be taken at this time, but this item will be discussed again at the next meeting.

  5. New Business
    1. Humanities
      1. GER Form
        Linguis 550-211 Power of Words: Building a Copious Vocabulary (GER-HU) was not recommended for approval. (Subsequently, the department asked that the form be submitted to APCC to request HU credits for non-L&S students.)
      2. New Courses--The following courses are recommended to the Dean for approval:
        Commun 245-681 Seminar in Communication in a World of AIDS
        English 350-312 Topics in Film Studies: (Subtitle)
    2. Natural Sciences--None
    3. Social Sciences--None

  6. Adjournment – The meeting was adjourned at 10:10 a.m.
