She suggested that the L&S Course and Curriculum Committee prepare such a proposal for the APCC and Vice Chancellor to consider. Connie will prepare a draft of some preliminary ideas.
    2. Quality of Work Requirement in the Major--nothing to report.

  5. New Business

It was moved, seconded, and approved that the agenda be suspended to accommodate the committee's guest.

Item V.D.1. Proposal to Offer the CIM (Organizational Administration) on Campus was discussed. Kathryn Dindia, Chair of the BAOA Advisory Committee explained the background of the program as one developed initially for UWM's degree programs offered on the UW Colleges' campuses. She noted that interest in this major had grown among students on the UWM campus. Following the model of Women's Studies, the College wishes to make this option available to all UWM students, not just those attending the Colleges. It was moved, seconded, and approved to recommend to the dean approval to offer the CIM (Organizational Administration) on the UWM campus.

It was moved, seconded, and approved to return to the order of the agenda.

      1. It was moved and seconded to recommend to the Dean approval of the following GER:
Commun 245-661 Current Topics in Communication: (approve subtitle--Afrocentric Communication) (HU/CD)
After some discussion, the motion was amended to recommended approval of cultural diversity only. A motion to table was made and seconded in order that the course could be reviewed in the department. The motion to table was approved.

    4. Other
      1. CIM (Organizational Administration)--discussed earlier (see above)
      2. Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) Pilot, Courses (item withdrawn from the agenda)

    5. Discussion Items
      1. GERs - The general consensus among committee members is that the GERs have lost their meaning. Jane Nardin will draft a statement of the committee's views for submission to the APCC. She will circulate it via email for comments.
      2. Post Baccalaureate Minors--Connie noted that the Vice Chancellor has granted approval for units to offer post-baccalaureate minors. She raised the question of whether individual departments in the College could opt to do so immediately or whether faculty review was necessary. Committee members agreed this should be a matter decided by the faculty. It was moved and seconded to recommend to the Faculty that the College permit granting of post-baccalaureate minor, with the provision that students must meet the minor requirements in effect at the time they enter the post-baccalaureate minor program. It then was moved and seconded to amend the motion to add "or certificate(s)" after the word "minor(s)" in the proposal. It was noted that some certificates, but not all, currently can be taken after the baccalaureate degree has been granted. The addition of the wording would make clear that certificates are not being excluded. The amendment was approved. The motion was approved as amended. Time permitting, a request will be made to add the proposal to the agenda of the Faculty meeting on April 10.
      3. Connie asked the committee's approval to discuss one additional item. The Honors Program asked for clarification of the process for requesting that a particular subtitle of an Honors course count toward the International requirement. It was moved, seconded, and approved to consider any such requests as automatic consent business.

  6. Adjournment--The meeting was adjourned at 10:27 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
