  1. Call to Order: The chair, Professor Bill Kean, called the meeting to order at 9:34 a.m. in HLT 241.

  2. Automatic Consent: There were no objections to the following items, so they are accepted.
    1. Approval of Minutes #6 - revised (December 21, 1999)

  3. Procedural Matters
    1. The Semester II meeting schedule was approved as follows, with all meetings starting at 9:30 a.m.: Jan 26 (HLT 241), Feb 16 (HLT 131), Mar 8 (HLT 241), Mar 29 (HLT 131), Apr 19 (HLT 241), May 10 (HLT 131).

  4. Old Business
    1. Community Program in Jewish Studies - nothing to report
    2. Quality of Work Requirement in the Major - nothing to report

    Committee members asked when we might have information on the above two items. Connie indicated that the first item was awaiting a campus position statement on such programs; the second item would be addressed when Erl Olfe completed his study of 1999-2000 graduates.

  5. New Business
    1. Social Sciences
      1. It was moved, seconded, and approved to recommend to the Dean approval of the Political Science Department's capstone proposal.
      2. It was moved, seconded, and approved to recommend to the Dean approval of the Psychology Department's capstone requirement.
      3. The following CAR form was approved:

    4. Discussion Items
      1. L&S Approval Matrix: Committee members reviewed a Committee on Committees (CoC) draft of an internal College approval matrix. The members agreed with the responsibilities identified for the C&CC. Members also indicated that the C&CC could review proposals relating to units (i.e. establish a new school, change department name) if another appropriate committee was not identified. Connie was asked to report the Committee's views at the next meeting of the CoC.

      2. Peoplesoft Plan Types. Professor Jeff Merrick and Connie Jo gave a brief update on some issues concerning Peoplesoft that had been raised with the APCC. They will continue to report to the C&CC when new issues arise.

    5. Late Additions to the Agenda
      1. It was moved, seconded, and approved to recommend to the Dean approval of the revisions to the Anthropology Department's major, which include the capstone requirement.
      2. The following CAR form was approved:
        French 400-392 Phonetics (prereq)
      3. The following request for cultural diversity credits was approved:
        English 350-685   Honors Seminar ("American Crossings: Studies in Twentieth Century Ethnic Literature" subtitle)
      4. Connie shared the memo she sent to English and the response from Professor Buley-Meissner concerning the changes in subtitle for her Asian literature freshman seminar course.

  6. Adjournment - There was no additional business; the meeting was adjourned at 10:50 a.m.
