- Evaluating Replacement Position Requests
Connie explained how the list of replacement positions was derived and answered questions concerning specific positions. There was a brief discussion about how to proceed. Connie also reported that Dean Goodman indicated we would be able to do only 2-3 senior hires, and those only in departments where the salaries would be 1.25 - 1.5 times a mean salary of about $48,000.
Committee reviewed recruitment proposals by departments for positions that they have open for replacement. Members decided to give committee recommendations concerning these replacement positions to the dean immediately so departments can get an early start in the hiring process. The Committee recommendations are given below. With two exceptions (indicated below), all hires are recommended at the assistant professor level. Committee members agreed that the Department of Sociology should be permitted to hire just one assistant professor as a replacement for Professor Squires.

It is assumed that these funds will be available from salary savings by hiring most replacement faculty at the assistant professor level.
