  1. Call to Order -- The meeting was called to order at 10:30 a.m.

  2. Automatic Consent - Minutes #3 (March 6, 2000) were deferred.

  3. Procedural Matters -- None

  4. Old Business
    1. Committee members discussed a draft memo to directors and coordinators of L&S Centers and Institutes, and they suggested some revisions. The memo will be sent, requesting a one-page summary of each unit, with a deadline of June 1.
    2. Committee members discussed the relationship between the requests for Milwaukee Idea II proposals and DINs. There is a great deal of confusion about how these two are linked. Members asked the Chair to request clarification from Dean Goodman.
    3. The proposal for a School of Journalism and Media Studies was discussed. Committee members agreed that they were satisfied with the proposal regarding its academic aspects, but they feel they cannot make a recommendation without clarification of the following items:
      • budgetary implications of a school within a college;
      • a working definition of a school within a college.
      The chair will contact Dean Goodman regarding these questions.

  5. New Business - None

  6. Adjournment -- The meeting was adjourned at 11:45 a.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Connie Jo
Special Assistant to the Dean
Secretary to the L&S Faculty

Distribution: Dean Marshall Goodman
Associate Deans Meadows, O'Bryan, Schuster, Van Wynsberghe
Assistant Deans Horstman, Kissinger, Olfe
Secretary of the University
