The chair, James Kuist, called the meeting to order at 10:40 a.m. in Holton 241.
- Automatic Consent
Minutes #2 of the October 23, 1998 meeting were approved as submitted.
- Procedural Matters -- None
- Old Business
- The report of the subcommittee to review the PAR recommendations was discussed. Mark Schwartz gave a brief report on the APC's action regarding the subcommittee report. There was strong sentiment expressed by GPC members in support of the section of the report that outlined he shortcomings of the PAR process.
Moved and seconded to accept the subcommittee's report, to forward it to the Dean with the committee's strong endorsement of the recommendations regarding the Geography and Geosciences Ph.D. programs, which fall within its purview, and to express the committee's strong agreement with the section of the report outlining the problems with the PAR process. The motion was approved unanimously.
- Discussion of the process of awarding NRTR scholarships was initiated based on a request by the Graduate School for feedback regarding the possibility of turning over the entire process to the schools and colleges. Committee members agreed the process either needs to be all done here or all done by the graduate school. GPC members expressed their willingness to take responsibility for this function.
- New Business
It was moved and seconded to recommend to the Dean approval of the recommendations of the faculty of the Industrial and Labor Relations Program Committee of the College of Letters and Science and of the faculty of the School of Business Administration for a revision of the requirements of the existing graduate program in Human Resources and Labor Relations. The motion was approved unanimously.
