November 5, 1998 Coordinating Committee for the Certificate in German Area Studies 1997-98 Annual Report Our committee met in April, 1998 to consider applications for the 1998-99 study abroad program with JLU in Giessen, Germany. After interviews with each student applicant and a thorough review of each student's academic record, eleven students were approved for participation in the program (to commence in March, 1999 and run through July, 1999). The committee further considered each student applicant for the available merit scholarship monies and awarded these moneys based on academic merit. The committee will meet again in April, 1999 to consider applicants for participation in the exchange starting in March, 2000. In addition, approximately three German Area Studies Certificates were awarded in 1997-98 to students who had completed study in Giessen and met all other certificate program requirements. |
