Present: James Coggins, Connie Jo (ex officio), William Kean, Robert Moore, Rachel Skalitzky, Roy Swanson, Cam Tatham
Excused: Osei-Mensah Aborampah
Absent: Michael Day, Magda Kandil


Professor William Kean, the Chair of the Committee, called the meeting to order at 2:10 p.m. in Holton 241.

  1. Automatic Consent - Minutes #3 (October 29, 1998) were approved as submitted.

  2. Procedural Matters

    1. There were no questions concerning the updated membership roster.

    2. It was agreed that Connie would send an email message to committee members asking for their Spring semester schedules.

  3. Old Business

    1. Tabled course, Portuguese 782-360, will remain tabled until the December 10 meeting.

    2. Committee members discussed the information provided by Connie concerning the number of students who declare a concentrated study in two departments. Because the number of students who graduate each semester averages only 2-3, members did not feel any immediate action was needed.

    3. The report of the joint subcommittee on PAR recommendations was introduced. It was moved and seconded to accept and support the report of the subcommittee and to forward it to the Dean. The motion was approved unanimously.

  4. New Business

    1. Natural Sciences - None

    2. Social Sciences - None

    3. Humanities

      The following GER/CD request was recommended (with one abstention) to the Dean:
      Commun 245-350 Intercultural Communication

      The following CAR forms were recommended unanimously to the Dean:
      L&S HU 530-290 Creativity, Performance, and the Fine Arts, desc chg
      L&S HU 530-293 Sophomore Scholars Seminar: (Subtitle), new, GER-HU

  5. As there was no other business before the Committee, the meeting was adjourned at 3:20 p.m.
