Each campus unit will be best served by having their own in-house talent to
create, update and change their information on the UWM Campus Wide Information
System. The following resources can assist in that process.
Before you get started
- To receive a "slot" on UWM's web pages, send an email message to Bill
Stapleton
(wls@csd) including your department name,
a shorter name or abbreviation to use for the Web directory/URL name,
and a permanent departmental person
(to serve as a future contact) in the message. You'll receive some
electronic information and
instructions by email and Bill will reserve storage space for your
departmental page.
Help getting started
- Go to http://www.uwm.edu/info/ to read some pointers,
including the
UWM Web Page Standards
for departmental home pages.
This document outlines the Universities minumum requirements for offical
web pages and offers many suggestions in developing effective pages.
- Look at a good guide to the HTML language. One suggested book, that
you'll find on Reserve
in the Library, is HTML for Dummies, by Ed Tittel and Steve James.
- Take an HTML shortcourse from I&MT (229-5395).
Many of our periodic
shortcourses
are focused on serving faculty and
departmental staff who want help with the development of Home Pages.
- Take an HTML shortcourse from the School of Library and
Information Science (227-3200).
- Join the UWM CWIS email listserver. Send an email message to
listserv@csd.uwm.edu
and in the body of the message say: subscribe cwis
- Contact the Student Consultant Supervisor at 229-6635 if you wish to hire a
student consultant to help with
your home departmental page.
Answers to ad hoc questions
- Send electronic mail to help@csd where it will be read by
dozens of I&MT
staff, many of whom are skilled at creating web pages.
- Call the I&MT student consultants at 229-5370. Many of the student
consultants have experience creating web pages and can help you.
Help with effective and appealing page design
- Hire I&MT's Creative Services department to assist you. Contact
Sue McKay (smckay@csd),
229-4702.
- Call I&MT's Instructional Services Department for assistance.
Contact John Grozik,
(grozik@csd), 229-5477.
Getting your new page linked
- Once your page is designed, to get it linked to the UWM pages, contact
Bill Stapleton (wls@csd).
