~Only 3 Weeks Left~
Hi All,
So I'm back in 3 weeks already and the time has flown. I just had some visitors from home and it was a blast. Spending St. Patty's Day in Milwaukee will never be the same after being in Dublin for this year's St. Patrick's Day:) I wish I could be back in time to make it to Milo's workshop, but I will miss it by a week or so. Glad to see that the ball is rolling on everything. Hope everyone is having a great semester and I'll be back shortly and can't wait to see what DACSO has been up to!

Rapid Website Prototyping Workshop Update
HAL spelled backwards is MILO!
From Milo:RWP update:
Um, SO NOT master of all things computer... I'm fallible like everyone
else. Except for HAL.
For the button graphics, imagine them being in 2 states:
Up and Over.
so we'll have an "up" state that will corespond to an "over" state.
Well, you'll see...
Peace,
M
Large Grant for DACSO
How about we request some money for next year's International Digital Media and Arts Association Conference?
From Tom McGinnity:
SAC FALL 2006 FUNDING MEETING
The large grant meeting for fall 2006 (requests over $700) has been set. It will be held on Saturday, 4/22/06, beginning at 10 am. Expenses that occur in July 2006 may or may not be eligible for this meeting. If the expenditure must be made in June (payment made) for a trip or program in July, then it would not qualify. If the expense will occur in July then it is eligible. All grant request forms/packets will be due in the Student Activities Office on Friday, 4/7/06 before noon. The 2006-2007 forms are available at:
http://www.uwm.edu/Dept/sao/forms_funding.html. DO NOT use this year’s form to request money for next semester.
Resizing Images in Photoshop
I am using CS2, so it may vary slightly if you are using CS or 7.0, but it should be basically the same.
- Open Photoshop
- Open a graphics file that you would like to resize (File menu, Open, Browse, click Open)
- If the file is not approximately the right shape, in this case 3 times as wide as it is high, crop it using the crop tool.
- Option A. Select Image menu, select Image Size, uncheck the "Constrain Proportions" button, type the size you want the image to be (75 wide, 25 height) into the box that says "Pixel Dimensions," Ensure the pull-down menu is set to "pixels," not "percent," click OK.
- Option B. File menu, Save for web, select file type in the pull-down menu (JPEG, GIF, etc.), click the Image Size tab, uncheck the "Constrain Proportions" button, type the size you want the image to be (75 wide, 25 high) into the box that says "New Size," click Apply, click Save, Name the file and choose a location to save it.
Either option will work fine. Option B will create a smaller file that is designed for use on the internet, thus "Save for web."
If anyone has questions, please email me aaronil2@uwm.edu
Notes from the last meeting
Hey Everyone -- Here are the things that happened at the last DACSO Meeting
We ate GINGER snaps....and some candy (but we were levitating at the time, so it's OK)
Two major things were decided/happened.
- We are having a workshop. Milo Miller (JMC computer guru) is going to teach website prototyping in Dreamweaver (see separate post about workshop for info)
- We designed a background for the DACSO bulletin board. It is now printed and hanging in the basement hallway of Johnston. Check it out when you come to the next meeting:
- The Next meeting will be March 16, at 3:30 pm, Johnston G10 -- It has been great to have some new faces lately at the meetings lately -- Keep it up people, come on back!!
Also -- Many thanks to Bridget for the updates from London. Sounds like you are having a great time. We will see you soon!
It's me again....
So, I've realized that I'm not too good at this whole blog thing yet--mostly I just never remember to post--my sincere apologies!!! But only one month left!!!! This is the shortest semester of my life and it's been soooooo much fun. I just got back from Sweden and Norway, which is where I spent my Spring Break. It was amazing, very cold, but well worth it. I've almost crammed in all of the touristy thing I can think of and I will have millions of pictures to show anyone who wishes to see 'em. My sister and some friends come out the visit this week, which is very exciting. I have been reading the e-mails and see that you guys have been busy, planning workshops and such--well done:) Gotta head out, but I'll be checkin' up on you all in a month!
Cheers,
Brig
