Resizing Images in Photoshop

I am using CS2, so it may vary slightly if you are using CS or 7.0, but it should be basically the same.

  1. Open Photoshop
  2. Open a graphics file that you would like to resize (File menu, Open, Browse, click Open)
  3. If the file is not approximately the right shape, in this case 3 times as wide as it is high, crop it using the crop tool.
  4. Option A. Select Image menu, select Image Size, uncheck the "Constrain Proportions" button, type the size you want the image to be (75 wide, 25 height) into the box that says "Pixel Dimensions," Ensure the pull-down menu is set to "pixels," not "percent," click OK.
  5. Option B. File menu, Save for web, select file type in the pull-down menu (JPEG, GIF, etc.), click the Image Size tab, uncheck the "Constrain Proportions" button, type the size you want the image to be (75 wide, 25 high) into the box that says "New Size," click Apply, click Save, Name the file and choose a location to save it.

Either option will work fine. Option B will create a smaller file that is designed for use on the internet, thus "Save for web."
