Welcome to the School of Information
Studies (SOIS), located at the University of Wisconsin
in Milwaukee, a beautiful city located on Lake
Michigan! Whether you’re contemplating a
career as an information professional, or are
seeking career advancement as a graduate student,
you’ll find that SOIS offers a wide range
of courses suited to your needs. SOIS presently
offers courses leading to a Bachelor of Science
in Information Resources (BSIR), an ALA accredited
Master’s Degree in Library and Information
Science and a post-graduate Certificate in Information
Science. Furthermore, in collaboration with the
School of Education’s Urban Education Doctoral
Program, we offer the area of concentration in
Educational Media Technology. We anticipate offering
new degrees and programs in the future as we respond
to the needs of the information profession at
the national and international levels.
With our diverse faculty’s
renowned teaching and research records, students
come from all over the world to study at SOIS.
Our graduates are employed in various information
positions in the public and private sectors in
the US and abroad, turning classroom theory into
real-world practice. We extend opportunities to
students living outside the Milwaukee area through
our online distance education courses, reaching
a wide variety of students with various subject
and academic backgrounds. We have also forged
a number of links with associations and institutions
