| Subject: | Cross Rod Taper |
This rod amazed all who handled it at the Catskills Gathering. On paper, and to the eye of several experienced rodbuilders , it looks like a 5 weight taper, but it competently cast a 7 weight for considerable distance. While I haven't charted the rod yet, It looks like this is explained by a strong middle. Look at the jump from 42" to 39". I'm a little confused on how to identify the rod. I missed the first part of the discussion and only heard it identified as a Cross Sylph, but the Taper sheet calls it a Bataviakill. Zimney? Chris? Can one of you clear this up? In any case here is the taper: 7 ft 13/64 ferrule 4/64 Tiptop 0 in. - .290 3 - .290 6 - .290 9 - .290 12 - .286 15 - .282 18 - .275 21 - .265 24 - .260 27 - .255 30 - .248 33 - .240 36 - .230 39 - .220 42 - .203 45 - .198 48 - .190 51 - .180 54 - .168 57 - .158 60 - .150 63 - .140 66 - .130 69 - .120 72 - .112 75 - .106 78 - .096 81 - .080 84 - .062
