A Brief History

The UW-Milwaukee Lady Panther RFC was founded in 1982 by Anne Hogan, Kathleen (Nielsen) Romfroe, Lisa (Melzer) Buth, and Patrick Sharpe [of the UWM Men's RFC]. The Lady Panther RFC is one of the oldest Collegiate Women's Rugby Clubs in Wisconsin.

The Lady Panthers have a long-standing tradition of great rugby. And this is predicated on great friendships and dedication to teammates. We feel that we play as well as we do because we embody the principles of what it means to be a team! Your teammates are always there for you, both on and off the field. And once you graduate and become an alumni, you'll find that your teammates are there for you throughout your life!

The Lady Panthers have been one of the most competitive Division II clubs in both the Wisconsin and Midwest Rugby Football Unions. The Lady Panthers were Division II State Champions in 1999, 2001 and 2005, and State Finalists in 2000, 2002, 2003 and 2006. The Lady Panthers have been to the Midwest Division II Playoffs in seven out of the last ten years, with a 4th place finish in 2003!

The Panthers have been coached by Scot Prunckle since the Spring Season of 1997. Coach Jeff Grossman joined the club in the Spring of 2006.

Statistics

In the Fall 2006 League Season and Midwest Playoffs, the Lady Panthers outscored their apponents by a combined total of 419-47. The Panthers averaged 1 try every 7 minutes and 55 seconds of play, while the defense only allowed 7 tries the entire season!

In the Fall 2005 League Season and Midwest Playoffs, the Lady Panthers outscored their opponents by a combined total of 441-82. The Panthers averaged 1 try every 8 minutes and 10 seconds of play, while defensively they only allowed 13 tries the entire season!

Our Affiliations

The Lady Panther RFC is a Division II Collegiate Women's Rugby Club which plays in the Wisconsin Rugby Football Union, Midwest Rugby Football Union and the USA Rugby Football Union. We are recognized by the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee as a club sport organized through the Student Organizations Advising and Resources Office.

The LPRFC is funded in part by the UW-Milwaukee Student Association through appropriations allocated by the UW-Milwaukee Student Government Senate Appropriations Committee.
