Past Events

Biological Sciences Research Symposium

The Biological Sciences Research Symposium is organized by the Biology Club each year to highlight research being done by undergraduate and graduate students in the Department of Biological Sciences. This year the Symposium will take place on May 3 in the Student Union. Come out to learn about cool research going on in our department! For more information on location and schedule of presentations, check out our Schedule and Abstract Booklet.

Last Meeting of the Semester

Our last meeting this semester will take place on May 9th at 4pm in Lapham 185. We’ll have a scavenger hunt, officer elections and yummy burritos! Don’t miss it!

Earth Day Urban Ecology Cleanup

Help fight invasive species! We’ll help the Urban Ecology Center keep their park free from invasive plants. The cleanup will be on April 21!

Darwin Day

Darwin Day celebrates Charles Darwin’s birthday and the study of evolution. This year, we’ll be co-hosting a screening of the film Flock of Dodos, which explores why creationists and scientists have such a hard time understanding each other. The film will be shown February 11th at 4:30 pm in Lapham 101

RAK-a-thon

You can help those individuals in UWM area that are in need by giving a little of yourself assisting in a homeless shelter, raking the leaves of an older person, or helping someone winterize their home. Yes, it's the 5th Annual RAK-athon! To join the Biology Club team, please contact Dan Hand, dthand@uwm.edu , to register. The RAK-athon will take place on November 4 from 9AM TO Noon

IMAX Trip!

For our next meeting on November 8 we will be traveling to the IMAX to watch Aliens of the Deep. “Aliens of the Deep takes you on an incredible series of submersible dives with Cameron, a team of young marine biologists and NASA researchers to explore the bizarre and beautiful life that dwells in the deep ocean.” If you’re a Biology Club member and you’ve paid your dues this semester, the cost is FREE! What a bargain! Guests are welcome, and the cost is $8. If you would like to attend the IMAX showing, please RSVP to Jessica (koederi2@uwm.edu) so we can make sure we have enough transportation for everyone. We will meet at 4 pm in LAP 185.

Carve for a Cause

Carve for a Cause was a big success this year. We had lots of messy fun carved some pretty impressive pumpkins that are now brightening up the halls of the Milwaukee Catholic Home, and putting a smile on the residents’ faces. Check out the photo gallery for some spooky pictures.

Panther Prowl

Many Biology Club members were part of the Biological Sciences team for the Panther Prowl 5K Walk/Run. “Team Biohazard” was the second largest team with over 30 members! Also, congrats to team member Eric Vasquez who received 1st place in his age bracket. Most importantly, lots of scholarship money was raised for UWM students.

Blood Drive

The Blood Drive was a super success. We collected 124 units of blood, far surpassing our goal of 90 units! Many thanks to all who donated blood or volunteered to staff the drive. Give yourself a pat on the back for helping to save someone’s life!

First Meeting of the Semester!!

Learn what Biology Club is all about! Meet other Biology Club Members! Test your knowledge of Biology Trivia (don't worry, we'll play in teams)! Hope to see you at our first meeting on September 13th at 4 pm in Lapham 185!
