Annual Storm Chase

  • Held at the end of each spring semester, groups of UWM students travel to the Great Plains to forecast, locate and observe severe weather.
  • You must fulfill specific requirements to be eligible to attend.  A limited number of students will be selected, depending on funding and other factors.
  • The application process will begin in March.

Weather Challenge

  • The University of Oklahoma hosts an annual national forecasting competition.
  • Each student produces forecasts of temperatures, wind and precipitation for 10 different sites around the country.
  • Students compete individually and in the university's team.
  • This is an excellent way to learn about forecasting in a hands-on environment.
  • For more information, visit http://www.wxchallenge.com.
  • The deadline for participation is September 28, 2008.

Panthervision

  • UWM's Journalism department produces a local news show which includes a weathercast.  The program is played on local television or cable networks as well as on Milwaukee bus televisions. Interested club members will produce their own forecast and deliver it on camera.
  • Participants will need to travel to the Milwaukee School of Engineering downtown campus for tapings.

American Meteorological Society Annual Meeting

  • Each year, a small group of students is selected to attend the American Meteorological Society's annual meeting.  These students have the opportunity to view scientific talks and observe the latest in ongoing research.  The trip is a great opportunity to explore job options, future academic opportunities, and network with other students, professors and scientists.
  • This year's annual meeting will be held in Phoenix, AZ on January 11-15 2009.  More information can be found at http://www.ametsoc.org/meet/annual.
  • You must fulfill specific requirements to be eligible to attend.  A limited number of studnets will be selected, depending on funding and other factors.
  • The club will provide funding for transportation and lodging.  Conference registration may also be covered, depending on available funds and the number of participants.
  • More information will be available beginning in October.

Please write any other information or questions you wish to include on the back of this form.

Please return to Aaron Jermier or drop off in our club mailbox on EMS 4th floor, around the corner from room E403.  Please include $10 membership dues with this form.
