Syria
Mamun Al-Humsi is our region's adopted prisoner of
Conscience. As a member of the People's Assembly, Syria's legislative body,
he was well placed to advocate human rights protections in his country, and
he called for an independent parliamentary human rights committee to be set
up at the People's Assembly. When the "Damascus Spring" ended, he was the
first legislator to be arrested.
