Professional Occupational Therapy Application Process

Applicaton:
To apply for UWM's Professional Occupational Therapy Program, you must access the OT Undergraduate Menu through UWM's website. Then over the web you can submit an application form to the School of Allied Health's Department of Occupational Therapy.  Click below to access this site.

OT Essay:
As part of the application process each applicant must attend and complete an on-site, impromptu expository essay.  Click below to find out more information about this process.

OT Admission Essay Practice



Disability-Related Experience:
As cited from the OT Undergraduate Menu in the SAHP site, to ensure that students entering the professional occupational therapy program have a basic understanding of "disability" and the impact of a disability on a person and their friends, a minimum of 60 hours in a disability-related experience is a requirement of the admission process.  Click below for more infomation regarding this requirement.

Academic Preparation:
As cited on the OT Undergraduate Menu in the SAHP site, any student wishing to apply to the Occupational Therapy Program at UWM must meet certain minimum academic criteria.  Candidates for admission are considered in terms of academic performance and the presence of critical thinking skills and writing skills necessary to the practice of occupational therapy.  Some prior experience with people with disabilities is also required.  Click below to read more about this component of the application process.

Caregiver Background Check Requirement:
As cited on the OT Undergraduate Menu in the SAHP site, effective October 1, 1998, changes in Chapters 48 (Children's Code) and 50 (Uniform Licensure) of the Wisconsin State Statues now make it a requirement for selected organizations to perform rigorous background checks of persons who provide care for vulnerable adults and children or who have access to people who receive such care.  Click below to learn more.

BS/MS Track:
Students now have the option to apply for the Bachelor/Master's Track for their Occupational Therapy degree.  By being admitted and completing this rigorous program, a student will graduate from UWM directly with a Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy.  Click below to see if this option is right for you.
