Primer on Psi Chi

Question: What is Psi Chi?

Answer: Psi Chi is the National Honor Society in Psychology, founded in 1929. As with any honors society, it aims to promote intensive study, particularly in the field of psychology. Psi Chi currently has over 1,000 member campuses throughout the United States and Canada, in addition to being open to undergraduates and graduates. To verify this, simply click here. However, Psi Chi at UWM was established only as an undergraduate chapter. Even though I am only the Web Designer right now, I want to change that to include graduate students, as well as have chapter-wide elections of executive board members rather than have the previous year's execs be the only ones who have a say in the electoral process.

Q: Why should I join?

A: Like it or not, many employers, graduate school admissions personnel, scholarship providers/review boards, and scores of others judge you on records that exist about you. Your membership in Psi Chi is a record of positive, constructive value that will aid you in your quest for employment, graduate school admission, and procurement of scholarships and grants.

Q: How do I join?

A: Obtain sophomore status or higher class ranking and make sure you have a minimum 3.2 overall GPA and a minimum 3.2 GPA in the group of psychology courses you have completed at UWM. Then, complete a copy of this application sheet and turn it into the Psi Chi Office (Garland B57). If you cannot or don't want to print the application, pick one up from the Psi Chi Office.
