Chess Courses

UWM has recently added a beginners Chess Course to the sports and recreation curriculum. The courses are being offered for 1 credit in sequential 8 and 7 week sessions.

The course will teach beginners the basic movements and principles of chess. Students will learn how the pieces move, basic opening theory, and positional concepts. Students will leave the course with a good understanding of the elements of chess. Students will also be encouraged to participate in local chess clubs and tournaments.
