Pre-College Programs
Our pre-college programs are designed to introduce middle school and high school students to careers in architecture and urban planning.
MEDAL: This program introduces high school age minority students to five professional areas, including medicine, engineering, dentistry, architecture, and law. Students who participate in the architecture portion of MEDAL spend a day with professors of architecture and professional architects. Together they "design" a building within an urban area of Milwaukee . MEDAL is one small way in which School of Architecture and Urban Planning connects to the community. But it's a profound way for high school students to learn about a career in architecture, the professional and ethical nature of the field, and how architecture directly affects their lives and society. Architecture Summer Camp: For this weeklong summer camp, students can leave the bug spray at home. But they will have to pack their creativity and critical thinking skills! This program gives high school students an intensive introduction to the field of architecture. And it works. A number of current SARUP students were once "campers" themselves. SARUP students, faculty, and professional architects offer their time and guidance to students who participate in this program. For more information, click here.
PUPS for PUPS: This is a fun name for a seriously fun summer and after-school programs. PUPS for PUPS gets Milwaukee 's urban youth directly involved in urban planning concepts and neighborhood problem-solving activities. Student participants learn about careers in urban planning. The SARUP staff and students who facilitate this program get to help a community resolve real world urban planning issues, while working with a group of bright and enthusiastic kids.
