Forty years. In the evolution of or the lifespan of stars, not a huge amount of time. But in the evolution of architectural education in Wisconsin—not to mention the formation of stellar practitioners—forty years represent an incredible journey.
In 1968 the fledgling School of Architecture (Planning came along a few years later) arrived on the architectural scene and just look at the results so far:
- Home to the Marcus Prize, one of the major architectural prizes in the world.
- Over 3,000 alumni practicing in fifty states and over forty countries
- One of only a handful of professionally accredited Ph.D. programs in architecture
- Regularly cited in the top twenty of the 140+ architecture programs in the United States
- Alumni who staff and lead major architectural practices in Milwaukee, Chicago, and — beyond
The list goes on and remember, we’ve only just started. Our senior alums—those are the ones leading the design practices these days—are still pretty young with their best work ahead of them, while new practices spring up every day accomplishing remarkable work.
Keep an eye on our website this year. There will be many events to mark this 40th anniversary. We hope you join us as we reflect on our past successes and look ahead to our bright future.
I hope to see you soon.
