"I can't fathom It" by Marie Mellott
"I can't fathom it" is a series of drawings for "projection theater", made into a series of slides and projected by two projectors, synchronized by a slide dissolve unit. This 91/2 minutes of sequenced images is accompanied by an original music for solo cello composed by Yehuda Yannay.
The idea behind the work was to create a soul-searching attempt at understanding violence against women and was motivated by rape incidents in America as well as the mass violence against women in Bosnia.
Each drawing portrays a glimpse of a maternal gesture of protection in a nightmarish surrealistic scene of confrontation.
