The Mission of the Nonprofit Center of Milwaukee

The Nonprofit Center promotes the organizational effectiveness of nonprofit groups dealing with the broad scope of urban issues. The Nonprofit Center is committed to the empowerment of nonprofit organizations through community-based decision-making, leadership development, effective management, resource sharing and other collaborative efforts.

The Nonprofit Center was founded in 1967 as an association of nonprofit organizations. The Nonprofit Center's 240 members, the largest association of nonprofit organizations in Wisconsin, network in training sessions and learn more about each other's agencies, their ideas, successes, and plans for the future.


The Nonprofit Center provides comprehensive services through three major programs:
The Resource Center
- the leading source of training and technical assistance in southeastern Wisconsin.
The School for Leaders
- a program to provide community organizing skills training to local organizations.
The Data Center
- a technical resource collecting and distributing maps and graphs of Milwaukee neighborhoods.
The Neighborhood Strategic Planning Support program
          - supporting neighborhood based planning and programs

We serve our clients as part teacher, part colleague and part expert resource in the effort to lead them toward this ideal, and assist them in creating outcome-oriented solutions. The Nonprofit Center believes that exemplary nonprofit management principles include a commitment to improving the quality of urban life and fosters that commitment by providing a forum for open dialogue to address the difficult social, political and health issues urban nonprofits face.
