Discussion

The remainder of this document focuses upon the development of material for nonprofit organizations - although they would be only one component in a community wide system. The focus is not upon the core of a CWEIS system, but upon the unique elements that individual organizations would create. A more complete discussion will be developed in a future document.

Nonprofit organizations should look beyond most current examples of Internet sites which are generally electronic versions of organizational brochures. Online sites can be much more than that. They can reflect and enhance the activities and management of organizations.

The pages which follow explore the full range of possibilities. Any specific organization needs to evaluate how appropriate a category may be. In many cases, staff are already involved in information and coordination activity. Such work should be represented online as well.

Materials on the next several pages review a wide range of options. Organizations are likely to use only some of the elements suggested. The choices an individual organization makes should also reflect an assessment of which program elements would be enhanced, even transformed, by the telecommunications environment.

The categories listed above are developed in detail on the next eleven pages.
