Biking to work is a lot more pleasant -- and frankly, more likely to happen -- when you have someone to share the ride with.

UWM B.I.G. members are participating in the Bike Buddies program being coordinated through the Milwaukee office of the Bike Federation of Wisconsin. Think of it as the cycling equivalent of carpooling.

Bike Buddies are the following:

  • Mentors for others who want to try bicycling to/from work
  • Help plan routes for new commuters
  • Ride with others-the 3rd Friday of the Month

Meeting Locations: (Downtown is the destination for all routes)

  • Bay View Library (Southeast)
  • 51st & Oklahoma (Southwest)
  • Doyne Park Golf Parking Lot (West) UWM Contact: Greg Walz-Chojnacki
  • YMCA (604 E. Center - Riverwest Community) (North)
  • Bikepath @ Wilson and Woodruff (.25mi south of Hampton)

NOTE: Bike Buddy is a volunteer-driven effort. In order to have additional meeting locations we need to have more volunteers to sponsor preferred routes.

The first Bike Buddy event will take place on Friday, May 21, 2004--Milwaukee's Bike to Work Day. Meeting time is not firm yet, will get back with everyone. We think it will be sometime between 7am-8am. If you have immediate questions contact:
