| Genealogical Collections In The United States And Canada
The following list contains the names of agencies, academic libraries, genealogical/historical society libraries, and medium to large public libraries with genealogical collections throughout the United States and Canada. This is not a comprehensive list of facilities available for research. When planning a visit to a given locality, contact the local public or academic library to inquire about any genealogical or local history collections available for public use. In addition to the facilities mentioned above, researchers can also use the LDS (Mormon) Family History Center library system. This system is geared specifically to genealogical research. There are more than one thousand LDS Family History Centers located in all 50 states and the provinces of Canada. At least one Family History Center has been included in each state of the United States and each province of Canada. Our genealogy librarian has a complete listing of all LDS Family History Center facilities available for public research. Use of these facilities is not restricted to Mormons. In addition to the information contained in this handout, we have three other handouts which contain related and supplemental information:
1. United States Libraries With Major Genealogical Collections. 2. National Archives Branch Library System. 3. Genealogical Websites. The information contained in handout #1 list above, is limited to very large research facilities, whereas the information in this handout is more extensive. Please refer any questions to our genealogical librarian. Compiled by Bryan L. Mulcahy, Reference Librarian, Ft. Myers-Lee County Library 12/11/98 |
