Discussion

Provide detail to assist those who are new to an organization with specific information about where, when and whom to contact.

Location (including maps)

If many people will be visiting an organization for the first time, provide specific information to assist them. Include the address on an early page. Identify nearby landmarks, freeway exits, appropriate places to park, etc. A small sketchedmap may also be included. A complex map can be a slow image to retrieve. It is best placed on a separate page.

Hours of service

If an organization offers services at hours outside the normal work hours for the community, a schedule may be very important.

Phones/ fax / e-mail connections

A complete contacts directory is an important service for organizations with a large staff. When extensions or voice mail options are available for various staff they should be also be included.

E-mail references can be structured to permit a direct link to a message format. (This is further discussed below.)

Staff roles and expertise

Introduce the staff and their responsibilities. It may be appropriate to set up separate pages for each staff member or program head. These pages would further describe the work of staff and help to clarify for a reader whether they are the appropriate person to contact.

Staff pages may be personalized with photographs, personal statements or favorite links to other local or Internet resources.

Cross references to other organizations

An important function of a Community Wide Education and Information System is to provide a "map" of the community network. Each agency can reinforce this process by placing their work in perspective with that of other agencies and setting links to other home pages. A neighborhood based agency may also wish to link to a neighborhood profile, neighborhood resource directory or event information maintained by others.
