A natural first step for organizations is to create the equivalent of an agency brochure online. The task of preparing an agency brochure includes substantial planning by an organization about how it wishes to present itself. The initial pages in a home page system should creatively make a first impression.
The essential elements:
A mission statement serves to clarify the purpose and function of an agency. It often also identifies what makes the agency unique. When official mission statements have been written broadly, a summary of the key objectives of the organization may be included.
The key programs offered by an agency should also be clearly identified. This discussion should lead to other pages with detail about the programs.
Another essential element should be details for contacting the organization. The address, phone/fax numbers and key liaisons - especially the executive director - should be featured.
The first page and others will look much more impressive if customized with an agency logo. A smaller version of the logo may be included on most pages. Or appropriate graphics may be chosen to represent specific programs.
The appearance of a home page may be quickly enhanced by including small photographs of the agency or of participants in a program.
Sell the agency aggressively. Identify key accomplishments in summary material. Include more details elsewhere.
