Wisconsin Archaeology Month

May is Wisconsin Archaeology month in Wisconsin. During this month, the Wisconsin Historical Society in conjunction with Wisconsin Historic Preservation Month hosts a number of events along with numerous other organizations drawing attention to many of the state of Wisconsin's rich historic and prestoric resources. Please got to the Wisconsin Historical Society for an up-to-date listing of the activities scheduled for this year's Wisconsin Archaeological and Historic Preservation Month.

Wisconsin Archeological Society Logo Design Contest

Do you have an idea for the new logo for the Society? Put your talents to work and send in your artwork to the Society's new logo contest. The first place winner wins one year membership to the Wisconsin Archeological Society and your choice or two pieces of Society gear!

Man Mound Centennial Celebration, Sauk County

The Sauk County Historical Society in coordination with the Wisconsin Historical Society, the Ho-Chunk Nation, the Wisconsin Archeological Survey, and the Wisconsin Archeological Society wish to invite everyone to the 100th celebration of the creation the Man Mound Park in Sauk County, Saturday, August 9, 2008. The event is still in the planing stages, but will consist of a series of events and activities as well as a re-dedication of the park.

Increase A. Lapham Research Medal Recipients

Dr. James Theler of UW-LaCrosse and Dr. Constance Arzigian of UW-LaCrosse were both honored as the latest recipients of the Increase A. Lapham Research Award. Drs. Theler and Arzigian were awarded the Lapham medals in the fall of 2007 for their years of contributions to Wisconsin's archaeological research.

The Lapham award was first established in 1926 by the Wisconsin Archeological Society to honor those members who have made a significant contribution to the field of Wisconsin archaeology.
