Addressing Workforce Shortages and Barriers to Workforce Participation

BIG STEP is a program of the Wisconsin Regional Training Partnership (WRTP) in conjunction with the Milwaukee Building and Construction Trades Council, contractors associations and other organizations. BIG STEP has been working for more than 30 years to identify and train applicants for apprenticeships in the skilled trades, particularly among women and minority applicants.

There are significant projections of shortages in the skilled trades in the upcoming decades at the same time that unemployment is significantly higher among minority communities. BIG STEP is one of the most successful organizations working to bridge this gap.
