Workshop looks at teaching with children's trade booksBooks Across the Curriculum: Using Children's Trade Books to Teach Subject Content" is a four-day workshop presented by the School of Education Center for Children's Literature. Sessions will take place at the Union and Golda Meir Library on Tuesday, July 6, through Friday, July 9, from 9 a.m. to noon. (A special presentation from 1 to 2 p.m. by Chris Peterson, author of Century Farm and Harvest Year, is planned for Tuesday.)Sessions will explore teaching social studies, mathematics, and science through children's books. "Poetry Across the Curriculum" will be discussed by Bernice Cullinan, professor at New York University. Cullinan also serves as editor of Wordsong, a poetry imprint of Boyds Mills Press, and is past president of the International Reading Association. Five to 12 Equivalency Clock Hours have been approved for this conference. All participants will receive a certificate of completion and will have the opportunity to apply for accreditation at the end of the conference.
