"Global
Flashpoints," the annual Institute of World Affairs Fall Lecture Series,
showcases UWM faculty and outside experts speaking on significant regional and
worldwide issues. All lectures are held at 7:30 p.m. in Curtin Hall 175. Dates,
topics, and speakers for 1999 include:

21: "Japan: the Last 50 years," Donald Ritchie, internationally known expert on
Japanese culture
- Oct.
19: "Aging People in an Aging World" (speaker TBA)
- Oct.
26: "Iran: After the Islamic Revolution," Prescott Wurlitzer, The Friendship
Force
- Nov.
2: "Nigeria: So Much Promise," Wendy Werkmeister, president, Wisconsin Women's
Business Initiative Corp., and Alouzie Aguwa, director, New Horizons Computer
Learning Center
- Nov.
17: "The Challenge for Democracies," James R. Huntley, former president, The
Atlantic Council
