UW-Milwaukee, other schools award degrees at winter commencements

UWM bestowed degrees on 1,163 bachelor's degree candidates, 687 master's degree candidates and 42 doctoral degree candidates Sunday at its winter commencement ceremony.

Ozaukee County to get $991,600 for bicycle bridge

The federal government awarded Ozaukee County money for a bicycle bridge over I-43 and a $101,600 grant to help provide shuttle service between park-and-ride lots at Saukville and Brown Deer Road for UWM students.


Proposed UW building site debated

An architecture class at UWM is building a model to show how the proposed new environmentally sound building to house the Gaylord Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies would blend in with the UW–Madison campus. UW representatives are debating how disruptive one potential lakeshore location would be to the view.

New life for New Land

UWM Architecture Professor Harvey Rabinowitz is quoted in a story about developers Boris Gokhman and Walter Shukh, the owners of New Land Enterprises. Rabinowitz has been a consultant to the firm and also does research on real estate developments.

GUA opens two placement centers in Malaysia

An article about the Global University Alliance (GUA), a partnership of six accredited international universities, including UWM, announces GUA's entrance into the Malaysian market with two recruitment centres in Kuala Lumpur. UWM is the only American institution in the partnership.

A global village
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, WI Dec. 21, 2003
Young Lee, a visiting professor of robotics at UWM's College of Engineering and Applied Science, was quoted in an article about immigrant traditions that have been brought to Milwaukee. Lee and his family were featured in a section on a South Korean-style Christmas.

Commentary: Group hopes to improve Mexicanos’ quality of life

Javier Tapia, assistant professor in UWM's School of Education, has been named president of La Federacion Mexicana de Wisconsin, which aims to improve conditions for the Mexicano population in the areas of education, health and the promotion of Mexican cultural activities.
