UWM Art Students Hold Holiday Jewelry Sale Dec. 11

MILWAUKEE—Object, the student-run metalsmithing club at the University of Wisconsin—Milwaukee, holds its second annual holiday jewelry sale, “Objectify Yourself II,” from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 11, in the UWM Union Concourse, 2200 E. Kenwood Blvd.

Students from the jewelry and metalsmithing area of the Visual Art Department will offer for sale over 600 pieces of unique (and sometimes outrageous) jewelry. “The designs question the ideas of value, preciousness, and ‘cheapness’,” says Brian Carter, president of Object.

Each student will display approximately 20-30 pieces including rings, pendants, brooches and earrings. The artists have included a variety of materials in their jewelry, from gold and silver to nontraditional materials such as plastic and rubber.

Proceeds from the sale will go to Object for bringing guest artists to UWM and purchasing new equipment for the department’s studio.
